NORTHWEST BROWARD, FLA. (WSVN) – Two workers were sent to the hospital after a crane collapsed in Northwest Broward.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue units and Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the scene in the Holey Land Wildlife Management Area, 15 miles west of US-27 along the Broward/Palm Beach county line, Tuesday morning.
7Skyforce hovered over the scene, where several rescue vehicles surrounded the area. The crane was also seen on the ground on its side.
According to officials, the two men were working above high-tension power lines doing servicing when the bucket-truck they were on toppled over. They fell from 100 feet, suffered serious injuries and were airlifted by Palm Beach Trauma Hawk choppers to Broward Health North for treatment.
One of the workers was seen with a bandage on his arm, but it is unclear what other injuries they are suffering from.
No other injuries were reported.
The crane was pulled back onto its wheels and was towed away from the remote area in Northwest Broward.
Florida Power & Light released the following statement:
We are aware of the serious incident that occurred this morning involving two contractors who were injured while performing maintenance work on an FPL transmission line in western Broward County. None of our customers were impacted because of this incident. At this time, the incident is under investigation, and we are unable to provide any additional information. Please contact the Broward County Sheriff’s Office for more information regarding the incident.
