BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A Florida teen has been taken into custody for making a series of false 911 calls.

The Boynton Beach Police Department says in a news release that the 16-year-boy was taken into custody on Saturday.

Authorities say one of his earlier fake calls recently prompted SWAT team members to evacuate and search for a gunman at a Wal-Mart store.

During the latest call, the teen said he had cut off his finger and was bleeding profusely.

Officers responding to the address he gave found no such thing.

They tracked the teen down to the Boynton Beach Mall and he consented to detectives searching his phone. They determined it was used for the fake calls.

He was charged with misuse of the 911 system and taken to a juvenile facility.
