CUTLER BAY, Fla. (WSVN) — Peterson’s Harley-Davidson South held a barbecue and blood drive to benefit South Dade Senior High Principal Javier Perez, Saturday.

Many came to the event to show support for Perez and his journey to recovery in rehab.

Perez was run over by a woman who lost control of her SUV at Tamiami Park, in April. Both of his legs had to be amputated after the accident.

The driver, Marilyn Aguilera, is currently under house arrest, charged with driving under the influence.

Colleagues and friends of Perez updated his GoFundMe page with a message saying, “The last 2 weeks at rehab have been filled with ups and downs. Javi has had some issues with minor infections which are being addressed, and his stomach has had major issues. Please join us in praying they are resolved soon. Moreover, the therapists, nurses and doctors have been amazing! We are blessed to be at the best rehab hospital in Miami. We knew the road would be tough, we are staying strong and keeping the faith. God bless!”
