SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - An Army veteran donated a puppy, Wednesday, to the South Florida family whose dogs were shot and killed by a neighbor, Sunday.
Jonathan Lopez heard that Antonio and Yamilla Frederick’s two therapy dogs were killed earlier in the week. On Wednesday, he was at their home to donate a young husky-wolf mix to a family he didn’t know.
Buffy, a German shepherd, and Thor, a pit bull mix, provided emotional support to Yamilla, who survived breast cancer, and Antonio, who dealt with PTSD after serving in the Marines.
“He’s a marine; we’re family,” Lopez said, shaking the hand of Antonio.
Jose Rocha allegedly shot and killed the dogs, Sunday, and was subsequently arrested on cruelty to animal charges. The family’s third dog was not shot.
“Ooh Rah,” Antonio responded. “Today is a new chapter, new beginning.”
“I understand firsthand what a dog represents,” Lopez said.
The family has named the dog, a husky-wolf mix, Alpha.
