FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - South Floridians laced up their sneakers and walked for a cause, as the American Heart Association hosted the Broward Heart Walk event.

The Broward Heart Walk event was held Sunday at Nova Southeastern University in Davie.

Participants and teams celebrated heart and stroke survivors, raised funds and encouraged physical activity.

City Furniture CEO Andrew Koenig led the Heart Walk.

“We’re really proud to be in person this year. It’s been two years since we’ve been here. It’s so amazing, the participation of the community,” he said. “We’re trying to raise $2 million for heart disease and stroke [research], to help lifesaving research, awareness in our community.”

“We believe that a healthy community is really the foundation for any group to be successful and happy,” said Rita Case, an event sponsor and CEO of Rick Case Automotive Group.

Also on hand for the event was 7Weather meteorologist Vivian Gonzalez.

This year’s theme was Heart Walk Here, inviting participants to walk on the event path or create a path of their own.

The American Heart Association, the leading voluntary health organization focused on heart and brain health for all, aims to boost physical and mental health through healthy habits while supporting its lifesaving mission.
