MIAMI (WSVN) - A new housing complex opened its doors in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood, and it was thanks in part to a former Miami Heat star.

Officials cut the ribbon at the new Courtside Apartments, Friday afternoon. The complex is an 84-unit affordable housing community.

The nonprofit organization Alonzo Mourning Affordable Housing partnered with the Housing Trust Group, a real estate developer, to make it possible.

Mourning said the apartments will provide South Florida families with a stable environment. “When housing is affordable, it allows low income and average families to put food on the table, receive medical care and provide day care for their children,” he said.

Along with a gym, the apartments also feature a full basketball court marked with the NBA Hall of Famer’s name.
