NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - A woman’s Northwest Miami-Dade house was ransacked by an invader who destroyed the inside of her home, Thursday.

The 61-year-old woman was home alone while her husband, George Mister, was at work delivering newspapers. She awoke to the invader hovering over her with a hammer. Police said he threatened to kill her with the hammer if she moved. “She told me she was asleep and woke up and he was standing over with a hammer,” said Mister.

Miami-Dade Police said the assailant grabbed the victim by the neck, threw her to the floor and covered her with a sheet to hide his identity.

The inside of the house was destroyed, with TVs ripped off the wall and papers everywhere. “I asked her, ‘What happened?'” said Mister. “She said the guy came in the house and took out a bed, laid it on the floor and told her, ‘Don’t you move or I’ll kill you with a hammer!'”

Mister said his wife was crying and confused when he got home. “First thing I saw was my wife. I said, ‘Mary!’ And she was in the room there and she was crying and trying to find out what’s going on,” he said.

Mister said he leaves his home early for work and believes the burglar watched him leave the house and knew that his wife was all alone. “Obviously at any point, when you have a hammer in your hand, you can use it as a weapon and you can kill someone with it,” said Miami-Dade Police Det. Dan Ferrin. “It’s very serious.”

Investigators took pictures and gathered evidence, discovering three TVs were stolen along with $9,000 worth of jewelry.

Mister said the worst thing stolen is his wife’s safety. “We wanted to call the police, but we didn’t have no phones,” said Mister. “They took all the phones, TVs – everything!”

The victim said she noticed he was wearing Nike sneakers with orange shoelaces.

If you have any information on this home invasion, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
