HIALEAH, FLA. (WSVN) - Three South Florida students shared their recipe for success in the kitchen as part of a cooking contest that highlighted the importance of healthy eating.
The children from Palm Lakes Elementary School in Hialeah were recognized, Tuesday, for their winning entries in the Healthy Recipe Contest, sponsored by the Health Foundation of South Florida. Students and faculty got the chance to sample the young chefs’ creations, which included lemon chicken, glazed carrots and curry rice.
Winning fourth-grader Abigail Freis said the secret to victory is to keep it simple. “We were thinking something easy to cook, something nutritional, something fun that everyone would like,” she said.
The contest provided students, teachers and cafeteria managers from Miami-Dade County Public Schools the chance to share their favorite healthy recipes using produce grown in their school gardens.
