NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - Police are investigating after a Miami firefighter and one other person were killed in a shooting in Northwest Miami-Dade.

Miami-Dade Police responded to the scene of a shooting at 4331 N.W. 31st Court, around 1:30 a.m., Saturday. According to police, 23-year-old Chadrick Davis and his family gathered at the home after attending a wake when shots were fired.

Davis, a two-year veteran of the City of Miami Fire Rescue Department, and 22-year-old Sir-Ernest Williams were killed.

The department held a procession for Davis on Saturday. Chief Maurice Kemp fought back tears as he spoke about Davis, who was his godson.

“Not only was Chad a very good, young firefighter, but he was also an incredible young man,” Kemp said. “A man that I’ve known since the day that he was born.”

Now, the department must continue on without one of their beloved comrades. “Very knowledgeable, humble and very quiet,” said Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Toriano Irizarry. “When I walked in this morning, I told them I was at a loss for words. There wasn’t much I could say.”

“I was hurt,” said Davis’ friend Gabriel Moss. “I was really really hurt. We love each other here. One third of our lifespan is here with our family, so this is our second home.”

Fellow firefighters said they will still work to make sure their job is done, despite their loss. “We have to live with it,” Moss said. “We have to own it. We still have a job to do. We still have to serve our community. That’s what we signed up for. That’s what Chad signed up for. If that was to happen to us, he’d be doing the same thing too — still working.”

The City of Miami released a statement which read in part, “The City of Miami is extremely saddened by the death of one of our first responders. Firefighter Chadrick Davis, 23 years old and a two-year veteran, is the godson of Fire Chief Maurice Kemp and the son of retired Fire Lieutenant Malcolm Davis. He was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting early this morning after attending a wake. This occurred in the area of NW 44th Court and 31st Court, in the jurisdiction of Miami-Dade County Police.”

Detectives are still investigating, but so far, they said, there is little information to work from.

“They were approached by an unknown number of males, who began shooting,” said Miami-Dade Police Detective Jennifer Capote. “We have no description of these males. We do not have possible vehicles. If they did leave in vehicles, we have no information at all.”

Kemp asked for anyone with information to come forward.

‘It’s tragic. It’s a shame, and it keeps happening all over the country but particularly in our community. We need help, we need help, I’m appealing to the community to help us,” Kemp said.

Police are still searching for the shooter. If you have any information on this shooting, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a $3,000 reward.
