MIAMI (WSVN) - Police are investigating after, they said, a mother was shot and her teenage son was grazed by a bullet in Miami, Monday night.

Officials said the incident took place in a residential neighborhood along the 1200 block of Northwest 45th Street, at around 9:45 p.m.

Paramedics transported the teen to Jackson Memorial Hospital. They said the young victim, who is 15 years old, was grazed in the head and is expected to be OK.

Rescue crews took his mother, Tammy Mack to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.

7News spoke to Mack’s sister who says the teen victim has been released from the hospital, but his mother will remain hospitalized for at least a few more days.

“She’s doing fine,” said her sister. “She’s up and about. She’s laying down in her bed, and she’s aware of everything. She says she’s in a little pain, but they gave her meds for it, and she seems to be doing better now.”

The victim is not sure who the shooter could be.

“Oh, she don’t really know who really was shooting at her. She don’t know. She don’t have no idea,” said her sister. “It was a bad way how they did it. She have never come to her one house, shooting up the one place with an infant baby there, disabled people, young minors.”

A witness said that Mack is a very nice lady and couldn’t believe this happened. “And I heard the shots, ‘pop, pop, pop, pop,'” said Doreatha Johnson. “I came out and police were swarming from everywhere. I saw when they brought him out first. His head was bandaged, and then I saw them bring her out.”

Detectives are asking the community for help.
