2 hospitalized, 1 at large after shooting at Fort Lauderdale business

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - Two people were taken to the hospital after, police said, an employee at a moving company in Fort Lauderdale opened fire during a dispute.

Fort Lauderdale Police and Fire Rescue crews responded to Good Greek Moving and Storage, located at Southwest 33rd Street and 12th Avenue, just north of Interstate 595, at around 9 a.m., Friday.

According to police, two employees were involved in a verbal argument inside the warehouse that spun out of control.

“During that altercation, an additional employee walked over. He tried to separate the two,” said FLPD Sgt. DeAnna Greenlaw, “at which time one of the two original employees produced a firearm and discharged that weapon.”

Investigators said the employee who opened fire fled the business.

“Two of those employees ended up having gunshot wounds,” said Greenlaw.

Paramedics transported the two male victims to Broward Health Medical Center, where they underwent surgery and were last listed in critical condition.

According to police radio, one of the victims suffered a wound to the abdomen and the other suffered a wound to the pelvis.

Police set up a perimeter and searched for the subject.

A local school, Saint Jerome Catholic School, was temporarily placed on lockdown.

“We had a very extensive search of the area with both uniformed officers, our undercover and our K-9 units,” said Greenlaw. “We did not successfully locate the suspect.”

However, detectives said, they know who they are looking for and are still investigating.

“Our detectives are working with all developing leads. We are asking anyone who has information to please come forward,” said Greenlaw.

A spokesperson for Good Greek Moving and Storage issued a statement that reads, “Good Greek Moving & Storage is fully aware and incredibly shocked and saddened about the incident that occurred today. Our priority is the well-being of our Good Greek family members, and we are cooperating fully with the authorities.”

As of Friday night, police have not identified the victims or specified the nature of the argument.
