MIAMI (WSVN) - Police have taken two high ranking gang members into custody after they led officers on a chase throughout Miami-Dade.
Miami Beach Police began chasing the white BMW on Alton Road and then along the MacArthur Causeway, just before 5 p.m., Monday. At times, the car could be seen driving on the wrong side of the road.
Officers from Miami-Dade Police also engaged in the pursuit, as the chase continued into the county.
At times the car could be seen zooming down the road into oncoming traffic, at one point nearly striking a pedestrian.
The suspect was eventually stopped on the northbound lanes of Northwest 27th Avenue and 25th Street in Miami.
The sedan could be seen with its doors and trunk open and surrounded by police cruisers.
Police said four suspects in total were taken into custody. Two were identified as 23-year-old Brandon Lee and 23-year-old Krishon Hedge, while the other two remain unidentified.
Officials said the U.S. Marshals Task Force had been in the Miami area looking for homicide suspects out of Queens, New York.
When they spotted the BMW fitting the description on Interstate 95 and Northwest 62nd Street, earlier Monday, they followed it for some time while doing undercover surveillance.
The vehicle left the mainland and entered Miami Beach, at some point, so officers with the MBPD monitored the suspect’s activities.
Police tried to take them into custody while they were on Miami Beach, but they suspects fled and a chase ensured.
Officials said the two suspects are known for driving around in fancy vehicles.
Most recently, they were both part of a hit-and-run in Miami, involving a Lamborghini on Oct. 6, police said. Surveillance video captured them ditching the sports car before getting into a black Mercedes-Benz and fleeing the scene.
In that instance, the vehicle they hit was a pickup truck belonging to a City of Miami Beach firefighter. He snapped an image on his smart phone of one man and the Mercedes before it sped off.
The security footage that captured the crash is from a camera at the 46 St. Super Market. Tierra Wilson, who works at the store, said she couldn’t believe what she saw on the video.
“It was crazy and a little bit bizarre, because a Lamborghini is like a $300,000 car, and to just leave it there is a little bit fishy,” she said.
“They’re gonna find them,” she added.
And they apparently did. 7News cameras captured a man who appeared to be Hedge being placed in the back of a police cruiser.
Despite the dangerous chase there were no reports of serious injuries.
