MIAMI BEACH, FLA. (WSVN) - 11 and 14 year old boys accused of burglarizing Miami Beach home

Police in Miami Beach have arrested two suspected burglars — both who are under the age of 15.

According to Miami Beach Police, an 11-year-old and 14-year-old were arrested after they allegedly broke into a home located near 20th Street and Alton Road, Sunday. Police said the suspects got past walls surrounding the home’s property, climbed onto a balcony and entered the home.

Ray Rodriguez has lived near the house that was robbed on Miami Beach for 18 years. He couldn’t believe what he saw outside his home that night.

“I came out,” Rodriguez said. “One of the kids was here. The other one was behind the bush here. That kid should be in a summer program somewhere. He should be doing something for his future, his career but not breaking into houses, not stealing stuff. Come on.”

Police said the subjects used a pick ax and garden tool to pry open a balcony door and get into the home, empty at the time, and take nearly $10,000 worth of jewelry and electronics.

Police spotted the 14-year-old running through Rodriguez’s lawn.

“He jumped this fence here, and he started running down the sidewalk,” Rodriguez said.

He said they never got inside his home, but they were running through his lawn.

“Very disappointed, very disappointed,” Rodriguez said.

The suspects ran through Jana Blaha’s yard as well. “Where are the parents at that they can’t guide them and tell them that’s wrong in life?” Blaha said, “that you have to do good, and you shouldn’t be stealing from people. You have to work hard to achieve things that you want in your life. You shouldn’t be stealing from people, especially at that age.”

Cops said the teens were using bicycles to try to run away and eventually dropped the stolen jewelry and electronics. They did find about $220 in cash, a debit card and an iPhone 3 that belonged to the victim on the 11-year-old.

“When I saw them last night, that’s what I saw,” Rodriguez said. “I saw a kid running from the police.”

According to officials, the suspects had a detention hearing Monday. They will be on home detention until their next hearing in early August.

Miami Beach police said they are still looking for two other suspects believed to be involved in the burglary.
