LAUDERHILL, Fla. (WSVN) — Four men inside a stolen SUV led police on a chase across central Broward County, Monday afternoon. Officers were able to detain one subject, but three others remain at large.

According to investigators, the chase started when Plantation Police began to follow a black Honda CR-V believed to be stolen, at around 2:45 p.m. A Broward Sheriff’s Office helicopter and units from Sunrise and Lauderhill Police assisted the Plantation officers as they chased the vehicle with four males inside.

Police said all four men bailed out behind a shopping center near Oakland Park Boulevard and Northwest 56th Avenue in Lauderhill. Police detained one of them, but the others fled on foot running through the Royal Palms Apartments along the 2700 block of Northwest 56th Avenue.

Police set up a perimeter and continued searching for the missing subjects. A man told 7News he and his two sons ended up being caught in the middle. “They surrounded me, ’cause when I opened the door, the [police] dog came out, and I’m like, ‘Oh, [expletive,]’ ’cause I’m scared of dogs,” said Lester Reid. “When the dog came out, [officers told me], ‘Get down, get down, get down on the ground,’ so I lay down on the ground. One of them ran up and kicked me on my back and said, ‘Don’t move!’ Boom! Right now, I’m [expletive] hurt.”

When asked what officers did to his sons, Reid replied, “They put them on the ground, too. Look, [they’re] 8 and 13!”

Reid and his sons were eventually let go. As of 5 p.m., the perimeter has been largely broken down.

If you have any information on the men’s whereabouts, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a $3,000 reward.
