WSVN — A new school year is sneaking up on us, and that means back to busy mornings getting kids out the door. Styling your daughter's hair doesn't have to mean pulling yours out. 7's Lynn Martinez is here with The List's top tips that take just minutes.
Gathering homework, getting kids dressed, preparing lunches. Most parents will tell you they need more time in the morning.
Father: "Sweet, it's twisted! "Here we go!"
These dads on YouTube resorted to some pretty extreme methods, but stylist Ann Marie Underwood at Arcayne Salon says it doesn't have to be that complicated.
Ann Marie Underwood, hair stylist, Arcayne Salon: "So we have a few tips to show you how to do their hair really quickly, pretty, keep them stylish with their friends at the same time."
#1: PONY UP
Number one, keep it simple with a pretty ponytail.
Ann Marie Underwood: "Ponytails are going to be the best option. First, we divide the hair in two to split it in half."
You can use a brush or simply your hands, then wrap the hair at the bottom around the ponytail at the top and pin it. Voila! You're out the door.
#2: DOUBLE PONYTAIL
Another easy option: do a double ponytail.
Ann Marie Underwood: "We're going to divide the hair also, two-thirds on the bottom, most of it, and one-third up here."
Attach ponytails where they join. You can even add an extra rubber band to keep stray hairs in place.
#3: CROWN BRAIDS
For girls with curls, try crown braids.
Ann Marie Underwood: "So first we're just going to part the hair in half in the front and make two braids."
Once braids are done, add a ponytail and pin braids with bobby pins.
Ann Marie Underwood: "We're just going to cross it over so you get a nice little crown."
Pretty as a princess!
#4: ADD A HEADBAND
Here's an easy one, Mom and Dad: add a headband.
Ann Marie Underwood: "Keep the hair out of the face. They can be pretty trendy, or they can be simple and sporty."
#5: TOPKNOT TWIST
If your little one is about to do some tumbling or take on the soccer team, try a topknot twist.
Ann Marie Underwood: "One good pin and she's ready to go!"
#6: TAKE IT TO THE SIDE
If your daughter has thicker hair, Ann Marie says, take it to the side.
Ann Marie Underwood: "We're going to do a side part."
Smooth and pin both sides, and add a colorful headband for flair.
#7: SIDE PONYTAIL
And if she's ready to take that trend to the next level, try a side ponytail.
Ann Marie Underwood: "Bring all the hair to the side, right under the ear."
Add a pretty headband, and…
Ann Marie Underwood: "She's ready for school!"
You have time for that second cup of coffee.
Ann Marie says, keep a container of hair ties and bobby pins on hand for any quick fixes. It's great in the car, too. In the Plex, Lynn Martinez, 7News.
