WSVN — Chef Nicole Votana of "Dirt" on South Beach says keeping veggies fresh is easy if you know how.
Chef Nicole Votana: "The best way to get your vegetables to stay fresh once you have them at home is done by buying them the right way when you’re at the store or at the farmer’s market."
It’s simple. The rule is to buy the vegetables with the roots still attached.
Chef Nicole Votana: "Once you put them in the fridge, you just want to keep them covered with a little bit of damp paper towel, and you can keep them dry. You don’t need to put water or anything."
Kept this way, the veggies will stay fresh for a week.
Chef Nicole Votana: "It’s just a matter of buying them on the root and making sure they look fresh already when you’re buying them. That way, you can have your fresh vegetables all week long, and you don’t have to worry about going to the store again."
