WASHINGTON (AP) — Republicans plan to bring to the House floor today a bill that would mean more screening of Syrian and Iraqi refugees before they come to the United States.

The measure would require the FBI to conduct background checks on refugees from those countries, and require the FBI, Homeland Security and national intelligence to certify to Congress that each refugee "is not a threat to the security of the United States."

President Barack Obama says he’ll veto the bill.

The bill does not contain religious checks for refugees. Democrats say that would in effect have targeted Muslims, who make up the majority of Iraqis and Syrians.
