POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — A South Florida horse is on the mend, months after surviving a tornado touchdown.

The 18-year-old half-thoroughbred, named Elvis, is back up and running again after recovering from a gruesome injury he sustained when a tornado blew through his Pompano Beach stable, Feb. 16. "It picked him up and threw him into the wall," said caretaker Lenny Rubino. "He hit a lock that was sticking out. Luckily, it missed his lung."

The storm touched down at the Pompano Beach Airpark.

Several horses were hurt, but Elvis was the most seriously injured. A veterinarian stitched him up, and caretakers had to watch over him, day and night, for two months.
