SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. (WSVN) — A South Florida man who overcame the odds to graduate this weekend was celebrated at a dinner held in South Miami, Sunday.
Sixty-year-old Tony Rhodriguez, who lives homeless in Miami, earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Miami Dade College. He said he overcame an addiction to drugs and alcohol, then enrolled in school to make a better life for himself.
Unfortunately, Rhodriguez got sick and missed walking with the other graduates to pick up his diploma. However, his friends treated him to a surprise post-graduation dinner at CasaCuba Restaurant, near Southwest 73rd Street and 59th Avenue.
