HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (WSVN) — Members of a community is coming together in a call for change after gun violence takes the lives of too many children and teens in South Florida.
The Cox Media Group extended an invitation to members of law enforcement, local clergy and family members of victims to a forum in Hollywood to discuss concrete ways to stop the gun violence and save lives.
One of those in attendance was Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin. “Some of the issues facing our young people today are self respect and self value,” she said. “They don’t value their own life and so we have to start with that."
Anger and outrage recently gripped a Northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood when 6-year-old King Carter died after being caught in the crossfire of a shootout in late February. Three teens have been arrested in that case.
