WSVN — We’re a week away from Halloween and if you’re looking for some frighteningly fun things to do, 7’s Belkys Nerey has the hauntings from Miami to Fort. Lauderdale in tonight’s Style File.
Get ready to scream.
If you’re looking for a spine-tingling scare, Jungle Island in Miami has been transformed into “Terror in the Jungle”.
Brandon Kittendorf: “A plane from a lab in Mexico crashes, carrying biological chemicals, mutating the local indians and animals into undead creatures of the night.”
Thrill seekers will walk, or run, through a pitch-black jungle to reach a ruins-themed haunted house where terror is lurking around every corner.
Brandon Kittendorf: “You’ve got zombies, indians, demons, animals. We build our attractions on phobias and fears.”
Only six to eight victims are allowed to go through at a time, so no one in front of you spoils the scare.
Customer: “Very scary, really scary. I was with my boyfriend, and I left him and started running.”
Lyman Davis: “There are aspects where totally unexpected, where things pop out.”
This heart-pounding fright night is suggested for those 13 and up, and the fear factor rating?
James Rodriguez: “I would give it a 10, and I’m thick-skinned, so it’s pretty scary.”
Lyman Davis: “I won’t admit, but yes, I did scream too.”
If you like a good ghost story, the historic Stranahan House is offering the “Spirits of Fort. Lauderdale tour”.
You’ll travel back in time to experience a Victorian home funeral with a weeping widow.
Guests will learn how to tell if paranormal spirits are nearby.
Merry Wadja: “We’ll be telling about paranormal activity on the grounds and the house.”
And actually meet some of the souls, like the ghost of Frank Stranahan.
Merry Wadja: “Who has come back from the dead. He will tell you how he came here, how he prospered, lost his fortune and ended up committing suicide by jumping in the river in the front of the house.”
Once the spooks are over, your adventure continues with a ride on the Bluefoot Pirate Boat down the new river.
Merry Wadja: “You’ll meet Captain Mo. He’ll tell you about pirate activity here in South Florida, which most people don’t know about.”
See, Halloween can be full of more treats than tricks.
The Stranahan House is $30 per person and advance registration is required. Prices for Terror in the Jungle start at $45 and it runs through Nov. 1.
