MIAMI (WSVN) — It was a big night for dozens of women volunteers helping families in need.

Habitat for Humanity teamed up with Lowe’s in Greater Miami, Thursday night, to host Girls’ Night Out in their parking lot. The event helped kick off Habitat’s National Women Build Week.

Around 40 volunteers showed up with helmets on and hammers in hand to build homes from scratch. It’s all part of a big goal the organizations have set for themselves.

"Our goal, at the end of all this, is to have a thousand homes by the end of the year made for safe, efficient and good neighborhoods for families in need," said Lowe’s Marketing Director Angela Miller. "And so, our goal is to have, by the end of this week, half of those made out of those thousand. We’re pretty excited about it."

Girls’ Night Out is held in 10 cities nationwide and will bring more than 17,000 women volunteers together from April 30 to May 8.
