HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (WSVN) — A puppy is recovering and lucky to be alive after she was shot in the leg.
Lexi, a 9-month-old puppy, now has a special tale to tell.
A good Samaritan found Lexi hobbling down the street, Thursday, and took her to VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital to get medical attention. "When she got here, she was in shock, she couldn’t walk," said veterinarian Angela Suarez.
Suarez said that if Lexi had not been brought to the hospital, she may have died.
They don’t know who shot her or who her owner is. "She didn’t have a microchip, no tag or anything like that, so no way for us to trace her owners as of right now," said Suarez.
Lexi is making progress in her recovery. However, she is not in the clear yet. Hospital staff will need to change her cast everyday for the next two weeks before she can go to a foster home. When she is released, Grateful Paws Dog & Cat Rescue will help her find a new home.
Hollywood Police are searching for the person who shot Lexi and are also working to see if this is connected to another crime.
Suarez has created a GoFundMe page to help cover Lexi’s medical costs. Any left over funds will go to Grateful Paws to help take care of other animals. "It definitely adds up and will be thousands," Suarez said.
