GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — A Hamas official says unknown militants in the Gaza Strip fired a rocket at Israel. Israeli officials say there was no damage or casualties.

The official says at least one rocket was fired Tuesday night and that it wasn’t clear who fired it. The official spoke on condition of anonymity as he wasn’t authorized to brief journalists about the fired rocket.

Hamas, the Islamic militant group that rules Gaza, has fired thousands of rockets at Israel over the years. But rocket fire has mostly stopped since the end of last summer’s war between Gaza militants and Israel.

Other militant groups have fired rockets in the meantime, though Israel holds Hamas for all attacks coming out of Gaza.

Israel’s military said there were no reports of casualties after the rocket landed. Sirens wailed in several southern Israeli communities.
