SOUTHEAST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) — A fatal wrong-way crash forced the closure of the northbound lanes of the Palmetto Expressway for hours during the Monday morning commute.
Florida Highway Patrol was on scene along State Road 826 near Southwest 40th Street, as early as 4 a.m., Monday.
The collision between two cars resulted in all northbound lanes near Miller Drive to be shut down for several hours.
The crash also affected the Don Shula Expressway — It was blocked off northbound at the Palmetto Expressway’s entrance.
Officials said a 25-year-old woman was driving the wrong direction in the northbound lanes when she collided with another car. She died on the scene.
The other driver who she hit was last listed in critical condition at a local hospital.
All northbound lanes near Miller Drive have since reopened.
