WSVN — Pets need a special place to relax, too. On today’s Room for Improvement, our makeover maestro shows us how to create a comfy space just for our furry friends.

Martin Amado: "Pets are a part of the family, too. On today’s Room for Improvement, we have a special do-it-yourself project just for them."

Martin Amado: "I left Aqua in the dressing room so that I can begin to work on the project. So, the idea is to take a basic tray that I found on clearance for only $29 and turn this into a doggie bed, by attaching these bun feet on each of the corners."

Martin Amado: "I like the tray as is, so that’s staying the same. However, the natural wood on the feet does need to be painted. The color, a vibrant red."

Martin Amado: "You can pick the feet up at any home improvement store for less than $9 each, and they do come in different styles."

Martin Amado: "I chose a bun style because it keeps the tray lower to the ground."

Martin Amado: "Give it light coat first, and then you can build up the color."

Martin Amado: "Perfect! Now, we just let it dry."

Martin Amado: "To find out where you need to drill on the back of the tray, place the bun feet on the corner and line it up with the edges."

Martin Amado: "Then, draw the outline of the circumference with a pencil."

Martin Amado: "Then, measure in from both sides to get your center point."

Martin Amado: "Once you have one measurement, repeat the same for the rest of the corners."

Martin Amado: "To open the hole, use a drill bit a little bit wider than the width of the screw."

Martin Amado: "Now, we simply attach the feet to the actual tray using a nut."

Martin Amado: "The final step to turn this tray into a comfortable doggie bed is to place a cushion on the inside."

Martin Amado: "Another option is to use a down pillow. And, there you go!"

Martin Amado: "Trays come in may different styles, so you can even use a wicker one for the same project. It looks just as good.

Martin Amado: "Let’s see if Aqua approves."

Martin Amado: "My first ‘fur client’ on Room for Improvement, and I think she likes it. I’m Martin Amado for 7News, and for more spray-painting tips, meet me at wsvn.com in our Online Extra. I’ll see you there."
