CORAL GABLES, Fla. (WSVN) — The daughter of a South Florida police officer who has accused Miami-Dade’s former mayor of domestic violence is speaking out.
Former mayor Carlos Alvarez has been charged with misdemeanor battery. Evelyn Fernandez, a Miami-Dade Police lieutenant, says Alvarez attacked her last Saturday.
Fernandez’s 16-year-old daughter spoke on the matter. "It’s important to get this message out to people because, he’s in such a high power," said Kristina Fernandez, "and has so many followers, and they don’t realize that he’s not who they think he is, and nobody knows what happens behind closed doors."
Alvarez bonded out of jail Thursday and has denied the allegations.
A judge has ordered him to stay away from Fernandez.
