MIAMI (WSVN) — A South Florida couple have been arrested and accused in a elaborate billing scheme.
Investigators say Ivy Maquilon, who worked in management at the Miami International Airport Hotel, drew up fake bids to help her husband Jorge, a business owner for Decomax, secure those contracts with her employer.
Both have been charged with organized fraud and first and second degree grand theft.
Investigators said Ivy used her maiden name while employed at the county-owned Miami International Airport Hotel. They say the two then inflated prices on services and supplies, some of which, were never delivered.
Interim Inspector General Patra Liu stated, “The Miami International Airport is not an open pocketbook to benefit some dishonest employee or vendor. The Miami-Dade County OIG, with our law enforcement partners at the State Attorney’s Office, remain fully committed to rooting out fraud at all levels of county government. I believe that Evans-Maquilon and Maquilon have gotten that message.”
Bond has been set for the couple at $60,000 each.
