ROCKWELL, TEXAS (WSVN) — Chick-fil-A is known for being closed on Sundays, but a location in North Texas opened up their fast-food restaurant to help feed those affected by deadly tornadoes.
The Rockwell location delivered free food to local first responders and people who lost their homes due to the Saturday storms.
"The locations were not open to the public, but team members from various restaurants in the area did volunteer to prepare and distribute free food to responders and others affected by the tornadoes—serving those in need during this tragic event," a spokeswoman for Chick-fil-A said in an email to CNBC.
"I saw employees inside the Chick-fil-A location in Rockwall today, presumably restocking their truck to make runs. So I know they are participating. Unsure of the other locations but I would presume Rowlett is helping too. Regardless of (who exactly) it’s awesome to see," Facebook user Jared Guynes said.
His Facebook post has spread across the internet with nearly 28,000 shares.
Chick-fil-A has remained closed on Sundays since 1946 so employees have an opportunity to rest, spend time with family and friends, and worship if they choose to do so, according to the company’s founder.
The tornadoes in North Texas killed at least 11 people.
