WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WSVN) — A suspected tattooed burglar in West Palm Beach thought he could get away with the crime, but a tattoo of the state of Florida on his face and the word "redrum" across his neck helped police identify him.
Palm Beach County Sheriff officials told the Palm Beach Post that a man tried to hide his tattoos with his hand as he allegedly burglarized a suburban home in West Palm Beach, on March 21. However, what he didn’t realize was that his tattoos were caught on surveillance video.
According to the homeowner, the surveillance footage clearly captured his "redrum" tattoo, which is the word "murder" spelled backwards, as well as the outline of the state of Florida on his face.
Twenty-five-year-old Jonathan Hewett was soon identified and arrested. Investigators were able to match them to Hewett by using a tattoo database from the Palm Beach County Jail.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Hewett stole a gun, a Michael Kors watch and a counterfeit Rolex. Hewett was previously released from prison in August after serving eight months for carrying a concealed weapon, a felon in possession of a gun and intimidating a witness.
The 25-year-old man was ordered no bail.
