SOUTH MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) — A brush fire that sparked Monday, burning several acres near the Florida Keys, continues to smolder Tuesday afternoon.
7’s Skyforce HD was over the scene in South Miami-Dade when the fire first sparked, which caused road closures going into Monday night.
According to the Florida Forest Service, at least 250 acres have burned, and officials closed U.S. 1 from the mainland to Key Largo. The roadway reopened to traffic at around 11 p.m.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units were also dispatched to the scene, Monday afternoon. The fire burned through some dead brush, and the smoke hovered over the roadway for hours.
There is no word as to what started the fire and no roads are closed at this time. No injuries have been reported.
