DAVIE, Fla. (WSVN) — Thousands walked in the fight against stroke and heart disease, Saturday morning.

The American Heart Association’s Broward Heart Walk took place on Nova Southeastern University’s Davie campus.

Men, women and children celebrated the progress in the fight against heart disease and strokes, both the number one and five killers of American men and women. "I’m here in support of promoting exercise and a healthy lifestyle," said Memorial Healthcare Medical Director Ioana Dumitru.

Some took the time to reflect on their own improved heart conditions. "It means a lot to me," said transplant recipient Willie Sutton. "Six months ago, if I came, I wouldn’t be able to do this."

WSVN’s own Vivian Gonzalez was the event’s emcee. WSVN was also an official sponsor of the event.

All funds raised by the walk went to local heart research, education and community programs.
