MIAMI (WSVN) — A 6-year-old boy who was hit by a police cruiser while he was riding a scooter is finally going home from the hospital.
That victim, Antwan Lawson, had been recovering at Jackson Memorial Hospital since he was rushed to there on Feb. 3. Now, his family is just happy to have him home. As he was discharged from the hospital, he was surrounded by family, and he said he’s looking forward to playing video games and being back with his brothers.
He was placed in critical care after he was hit by a City of Miami police cruiser along Northwest Fifth Avenue and 58th Street in January. According to officials, Lawson ran his scooter into the street when he was hit by an officer who was headed to deliver some paperwork to a fellow officer.
Lawson is expected to make a full recovery and told 7News that he feels good. "Well, he can’t really do much but sit down and play the video games," said Lawson’s mom, Janet Martinez, "so I guess he’s just ready to be home with his brothers."
That 6-year-old is still in a body cast, but according to his mother, he broke his leg, pelvis and injured his spleen and liver due to the accident.
Miami PD said they are investigating this case, but they have not said much else.
