BOSTON (AP) — A person was critically shot at a hospital Tuesday and a suspect was in custody, Boston police said.
Police said the situation, which unfolded around 11 a.m. at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, was “under control” and they had recovered a gun.
The hospital, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, said in a statement that the shooting took place in its Shapiro building, a cardiovascular care and research center. It said the Shapiro center had been locked down and that staff had been asked to remain in place. The rest of the hospital was not locked down.
There was no immediate information about the suspect.
Massachusetts State Police said they were assisting Boston police, who were the primary investigators. The department said the hospital was not accepting new patients and that scheduled appointments had been canceled.
State police also reported area road closures. Subway service to the area was also briefly shut down.
