WSVN — In today’s Room for Improvement, our makeover maestro is getting one preteen excited about heading back to school with a surprise makeover.
Martin Amado: "On today’s Room for Improvement, we have a special makeover. We’re giving Ally’s bedroom a complete new look now for back to school. Right?!"
Ally: "Yes!"
Martin Amado: "So what’s going on with your bedroom space right now?"
Ally: "It’s kinda plain and white."
Martin Amado: "Agreed! So, where do you do your homework?"
Ally: "Usually outside or on the floor."
Martin Amado: "On the floor? That’s not very productive."
Martin Amado: "Do you trust me?"
Ally: "Yeah!"
Martin Amado: "I’m going to surprise you at the end and hopefully you like it. High five. Awesome!"
Martin Amado: "Like Ally said, everything is pretty much white on white. We’re going to give the space a lot more color with decorative accessories, come up with a new furniture layout, and also just infuse the space with more personality. Let’s get to work!"
Martin Amado: "This peel-and-stick wallpaper will give me instant color behind the bed."
Martin Amado: "I started with my centerpiece first, and I’m adding two more panels on either side."
Martin Amado: "This is a great project to do wherever you want to add color but you can’t paint, especially in a dorm. Keep it in mind."
Martin Amado: "Ally really wanted a canopy over her bed, so of course, I’m giving her one. I love how it pops against the wallpaper background."
Martin Amado: "I love this bedding. It’s a mix of patterns and colors, so it all works in Ally’s bedroom."
Martin Amado: "So, Ally no more homework on the floor! I’m actually giving you a desk. And the best part is, it also doubles as a nightstand right next to the bed."
Martin Amado: "I found this piece while shopping, and I think it makes the perfect bookcase. Super modern."
Martin Amado: "And the final touch is an area rug that pulls all the colors together. I hope Ally likes it!"
Martin Amado: "OK, Ally, so this morning you said your room was…?"
Ally: "Plain and white."
Martin Amado: All right, now open your eyes."
Ally: "Oh, I love it! Oh, my gosh!"
Martin Amado: "So, is it boring and white still?"
Ally: "Nope!"
Martin Amado: Nope, right?"
Martin Amado: "So, now you have the perfect space that’s really cool, hip! It’s also very stylish and functional for you, too. OK, so enjoy it. Thank you so much for letting me do this for you."
