MIAMI (WSVN) — Just in time for Mother’s Day, Jungle Island has announced they are expecting… baby pink flamingos!

In honor of the big announcement, the attraction will host a special Mother’s Day contest just for moms.

Mothers are invited to enter into a Mother’s Day contest for a chance to win an annual pass for a family of four and be the first to hold a baby flamingo, if born. In order to qualify, each mom entering must book and be present at Jungle Island’s Mother’s Day brunch (www.jungleisland.com/mothersday), this coming Sunday. At the brunch, they must wear pink, and tag #JungleIsland #FlamingoLove on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. The winning mom will be picked at random and announced over social media at the end of the brunch.

According to Jungle Island, the mama flamingo has laid a total of seven eggs. From the time a flamingo lays an egg, the incubation period can take anywhere between 27 and 31 days before a chick hatches. "This is exciting for us, and we are eagerly standing by for baby flamingos to be born," says Dr. Jason Chatfield, vice president of zoological operations.

Flamingos are born white and turn gray after a few weeks. After a year, they begin to form their pink, rosy color.
