FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) — Some South Florida-bound passengers got a refund they didn’t see coming during their flight on Tax Day, Monday.

On Monday, the skies were especially friendly, but the giddiness wasn’t from the altitude.

Passengers on an Allegiant Air flight from Memphis to Fort Lauderdale were in for a big surprise after the carrier announced they would refund everyone’s ticket in a promotional move that coincided with Tax Day.

It didn’t matter what kind of a day anyone was having prior to the trip, but 20 minutes into the flight, everyone’s day got a little bit brighter.

Several other Allegiant passengers received similar announcements, which began on Saturday. "We’re giving away about a million bucks worth of air fare, and this is part of that," said Allegiant COO Jude Bricker.

Some passengers already had an idea of how to celebrate. "I just paid a whole lot of money on taxes, so [I] got a little bit back, and I heard y’all have a casino right down the road, so it looks like a good day for me," said passenger Travis Haddock.

Another said he’ll remain loyal to the airline after this promotion. "I’ll buy another ticket with Allegiant," he said.

This Tax Day will be one to remember. "Today was awesome; this was good," said a passenger. "We came down here kind of on a whim, so I’m excited to have a little bit of extra money."
