WSVN — We all know we should hit the gym several times a week, but did you know you can get a good dose of exercise through your daily routine? In tonight's List, Lynn Martinez has seven ways to put all the right moves in your day.
We all know exercise is key to staying fit and healthy, but knowing and doing are two different things.
JRok, Fitness Instructor, Kitty Kat Pole Dancing: "The biggest excuse my clients have is that they don't have no time for working out."
Getting a good workout doesn't mean countless hours on a treadmill or jogging 10 miles. With a few changes to your daily routine, you can see results.
#1: GROUP CLASS
For starters, instead of getting dinner with friends, bond over a bike class, or do something more daring, like pole fitness. Keep it interesting! Group training can be motivating, fun and hold you accountable.
#2: NO MORE COUCH POTATO
This leads to our second tip: be active at home. Mopping and cleaning windows counts! Put on music and dance your way through your chores. If your TV show is on, do a few sets of weights during commercials.
#3: TAKE IT OUTSIDE
Our third tip, take it outside.
JRok: "Miami is a great place to do outdoor activities, like kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, having a nice walk with your friend, anything that helps you stay active will work."
#4: COMPETING
If you have a passion "four" competing, you want to fuel this. Sign up to 5K's, CrossFit competitions, or create your own fitness competitions among friends.
#5: LET'S DO LUNCH
JRok: "Packing your lunch and having weights underneath your desk is a great way to also work out during your lunch break. Eat healthier and do some strength training. This really helps for those who work long hours at the office."
#6: TAKE THE LONG WAY HOME
This simple tip can go a long way. If you have errands nearby, don't drive. Walk to them. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, or park far from the store to burn a few more calories a day.
#7: TRACK IT
Last but not least, there are a lot of tools that can help you keep track what you do, from Fitbits to free fitness apps.
JRok: "With a Fitbit, make sure you try to get 10,000 steps daily. This is also a great way to set little goals that become big goals later on in life."
