NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) — A man and a woman were taken to the hospital after, police said, they were shot in a Northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood, Monday night.
Miami-Dade Police responded to the scene of the shooting at 1225 N.W. 103rd Lane, at around 7:30 p.m.
Investigators said 23-year-old Jessica Jean was shot in the head and 27-year-old Calvin Wright was shot in the chest and arm.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the victims to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where they are expected to be OK.
Investigators said the shooting occurred in the same neighborhood where 6-year-old King Carter was fatally gunned down, Feb. 20. Police said the boy was hit by a stray bullet in this same area as Monday’s shooting.
King’s father, Santonio Carter, said Monday’s shooting sparked horrific memories of his son’s death. "And then as soon as the shots were out, I ran down here, and the lady ran in the gate. The first thing she said, ‘Blaze, have you seen my baby?’" he said. "And when she asked me, that’s the same thing. I ran outside to ask, ‘Where’s my baby?’"
King’s death led to marches and rallies against gun violence.
There are no known motives for this latest shooting, but police are searching for a man and a woman, who, officials said, fled into the street and haven’t been seen since.
