Lynn can’t imagine what would possess someone to remake “The Exorcist.” But Shireen does, and it’s scary as hell. Deco Drive’s supernatural and paranormal senior corresponded Chris Van Vliet is here with more.
The general consensus among film fans is that “The Exorcist” is the scariest horror movie of all time, and 43 years later, it still gives people nightmares — myself included. Now it’s coming to the small screen and the cast scares up some details for us.
Even if you’ve never seen the movie, you know this classic scene from “The Exorcist.”
It was terrifying in 1973, it’s still terrifying now, and the new FOX series hopes to tap into that same fear.
Ben Daniels: “I still am not a believer in religion, in organized form, but I don’t know, there’s something strange that happens and it is in every culture as well.”
The show is set in the suburbs of Chicago and follows two priests played by Ben Daniels and Alfonso Herrera who are brought in to perform an exorcism on a seemingly normal girl.
Alfonso Herrera: “You have to take into account that battle between good and evil exists — light and darkness exists.”
While the TV series is inspired by the movie, it features all new characters and centers around family with mom and dad played by Oscar winner Geena Davis and Alan Ruck.
Alan Ruck: “It’s the oldest story. It’s the never-ending story of good versus evil, and I think people want to believe, deep down, that somehow, good will prevail.”
And whether you believe in this or not, the cast tells us the idea of an exorcism has a much deeper meaning.
Marcus Herrera: “There is also this process of exorcism that occurs in every single person that exists, which is our deepest fears, our deepest doubts. Those are demons that we have to exorcise.”
“The Exorcist” premieres on Sept. 23 at 9 p.m. right here on 7. I remember the first time I saw “The Exorcist,” or I guess I should say when I went to see it. I was in high school when they released the director’s cut, and I spent most of the time staring at the floor of the theater because I was so scared.
