Life may not be fair, but going to a fair can be a lot of fun, especially with all the greasy, sticky, sugary sweet treats on the fairway. But even though the Youth Fair left town weeks ago, you can still get a taste of it at The Dutch on SoBe, and Deco’s checking it out.
This party-on-a-plate is what’s for dessert this summer at The Dutch in the W on South Beach.
Joshua Gripper, The Dutch: “We have a really cool dessert on the menu right now. It’s called The Fair, and it’s inspired by the seasonality of the summer and its kind of carnival atmosphere that we’re about to get into.”
It’s lit like the Fourth of July, with a sparkler in a cotton candy sugar cup, and it comes with delicious dipping sauces, too.
Joshua Gripper: “This dessert is kind of a sample of pretty much everything you’re gonna get at the fair. It has churros, donuts, palmiers, which are elephant ears, and funnel cake. And the palmiers are dusted in lavender sugar and then we bake it off.”
The donuts are stuffed with dulce de leche, and when you put it all together, it’s a carnival!
Joshua Gripper: “The sparkler is cool because it kind of reminds you of being at the fair at night.”
Like fun times at a fair, it’s meant to be shared.
Joshua Gripper: “It’s definitely meant to be shared, because nobody goes to a fair by themselves. And it’s really interactive, and you feel like you’re with family when you eat it.”
The Dutch has a decadent Chocolate on Chocolate dessert, too. Delicious! But the real crowd-pleaser? Well, that’s The Fair!
Gaby Yidi, W South Beach: “I was like, ‘What is this?’ It was like such a good dessert, and it had literally all the things I like. It’s elephant ears, it was like these little donuts that just, like, had dulce de leche coming out of it. I was so impressed. It’s delicious.”
“The Fair” sells for $14, and it’s available through the summer at The Dutch in the W South Beach.
