MIAMI (WSVN) - A 12-year-old South Florida star is proving she’s got what it takes on the national reality show, “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Miami’s own Ruby Castro is one of the last dancers standing in the competition, and she talked to 7News before taking the stage Monday night.

The 12-year-old ballroom dancer is one of six dancers left on the 13th season of “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Castro is also the only South Florida contestant remaining. “It’s very nerve-wracking, sometimes,” said Castro, “but as scary as it can be, you always have to be very hopeful and very grateful because, if not, you don’t really get the full experience.”

Castro, who’s been dancing since she was just 5 years old, has mapped-out a winning dance strategy. “I think it’s just working hard, 24/7 and not being lazy at all,” she said.

This dancing diva is no stranger to reality television, appearing twice on “America’s Got Talent.”

Asked whether those experiences helped her with the current competition, Castor said, “I think those experiences were the best thing that ever happened to me. To prepare for the show since I know what it’s like to do live shows, to do interviews. I wasn’t like, ‘Oh, my God.’ I kind of knew the process of it.”

While Ruby continues dancing full-steam ahead, she still misses her hometown of Miami. “Florida’s weather is so humid and going to the beach is so nice, but sometimes it gets a little cold over here, and I’m not used to that,” said Castro.

The dancing continues for Castro next week on “So You Think You Can Dance,” right here on 7, at 8 p.m., after Deco Drive.
