Keep Portland Weird. That’s the slogan seen throughout this great city in the Pacific Northwest. But Portland isn’t weird. It’s cool, eclectic, original, a live-and-let-live kind of place, and that’s what the slogan is really about. It’s about supporting local businesses that make Portland, Oregon stand out from other U.S. cities.
I was just there, surprised my cousin for his 50th birthday, and the only “weird” thing I found about the city is that nobody honks their horns in Portland LOL. It’s not weird It’s pretty damn great, and it’s becoming one of America’s great food cities. I hit up some pretty cool spots during my visit. Here is my list in no particular order:
Departure – Cool rooftop, great food.
Imperial – Best fried chicken ever from one of Portland’s best chefs.
Voodoo Doughnut – There’s a reason why there’s always a line outside.
Screen Door – A one-hour wait for brunch, and well worth it.
Clyde Common – Farm to table at its best.
Urban Farmer – Simple, straightforward Northwest sustainable ingredients.
Doug Fir – It’s like eating in a cool log cabin.
Pepe Le Moko – Uber cool bar with the best bar snacks.
Tear Drop – Classic cocktails with a twist.
Huber’s Cafe – The city’s oldest restaurant, make it your late night stop for a Spanish coffee.
Thanks for giving me an excuse to visit cousin Alex. And thanks for keeping it weird, Portland!
