Do you believe in magic? If you’re a fan of the song “Rude,” the answer’s yes. Magic! hit number one with that song … but that was two years ago. The Canadian band is about to release their second album, “Primary Colors.” Now would it be rude to wonder what it sounds like? Not at all.
Magic! is back.
The reggae-pop band from north of the border is ready to drop their sophomore album, “Primary Colors.”
Lead singer Nasri Atweh hit up SoFlo to give Deco the deets.
Nasri Atweh: “With the new album, you’re definitely hearing a little more of the diversity of Magic! and starting to get to know me a little bit more personally, too.”
If you liked their massive hit, “Rude,” then the songs on “Primary Colors” will be right up your alley.
Nasri Atweh: “It’s definitely the next step after ‘Rude.’ Keeping the fun and a little more serious, more grooves. It’s definitely embracing the groovy side of Magic!”
You can thank Nasri’s love of reggae for the groovy vibe on the album, it comes naturally to him.
Nasri Atweh: “As a person, you have an internal pocket that’s attached to music. Reggae hits mine. I move the way reggae moves.”
On the single, “Lay You Down Easy,” Magic! hooked up with Sean Paul, a reggae legend and a SoFlo favorite.
Miami fits the Toronto-based band like a glove. They killed it the last time they played at Grand Central two years ago. You could say Magic! is inspired by the Magic City.
Nasri Atweh: “You end up wanting to make a certain type of music, a little more percussive.”
“Primary Colors” is out on July 1, which just happens to be Canada Day, and Nasri already has plans for what’s next.
Nasri Atweh: “The next album will be called “Secondary Colors,” and people will see it grow even further. We have a plan.”
