(WSVN) - Katharine McPhee has gone from the “American Idol” stage to a few acting gigs and albums in between. Deco caught up with the former Idol alum while she was celebrating another feather in her cap, right here in South Florida.
Katharine McPhee has come a long way since her “American Idol” days.
She’s not only a singer and actress. She’s a cover girl, too.
The American Idol season five runner-up was at the Confidante Miami Beach — celebrating her Ocean Drive Magazine cover.
Katharine McPhee: “It’s thrilling. I haven’t had time to spend time in Miami, and I was so excited to be on a Miami-driven magazine.”
The magazine is on stands now, and inside it Katharine talks about “American Idol,” her divorce and life in Hollywood.
Katharine McPhee: “I had the best time with hair and makeup and photographer, and I loved that the fashion was on point for me.”
Katharine McPhee: “The photos came out beautiful, and I had a great shoot and I am really happy.”
Even though it was a party in her honor. She still worked a little, and belted out classics for partygoers.
Katharine McPhee: “They are songs I am inspired by. I’ve been inspired by them for a long time. These old standards I’ve been singing since I was a little kid.”
Katharine heads back into the studio next month, and the special performance was a preview of her next album, and a look at her past.
Katharine McPhee: “I think if you look at what I originally did on Idol, I was always picking these songs.”
Katharine hasn’t spent a lot of time in So Flo, but she did have some must-do’s while she was here.
Katharine McPhee: “The beach was my first stop. My buddy and I hung out at the beach and swam in water that felt like bathwater.”
Katharine, in South Florida, that’s what we call a warm welcome.
