The Drink: Homemade Craft Beer
Ingredients:
2 and a half gallons water
beer making kit or grains
hops
plastic container
Method of preparation:
- Fill up a pot with two and a half gallons of water.
- Heat the water and before it begins to boil, add your grains.
- Put them in a bag first and steep them, like you would a cup of tea.
- Once your water comes to a rolling boil, remove the bag of grains from the heat and let this water sit for an hour. It will turn into wort, also called sugar water.
- Bring the wort mixture to a boil. Add your hops and other ingredients to give your beer, aroma and flavor.
- Cool the mixture down and pour it into a plastic container to start the fermentation process. That’s when the starch and sugars convert into alcohol.
- Store your container in a cool dark place. In about two weeks to a month, it should be ready to drink.
