WSVN — French comfort food is filling and delicious, especially the sandwich recipe we’re sharing tonight. That’s what’s on le menu as we grab a Bite with Belkys.

The Chef: Julia Ning
The Restaurant: Station 5 Table & Bar in South Miami
The Dish: Croque Monsieur

Ingredients:
Béchamel sauce:
2 tbs. butter
2 tbs. flour
1.5 cups whole milk
1/2 grated Gruyère cheese
1/2 grated Parmesan cheese
Croque Monsieur:
2 slices rye bread (or your favorite))
2 oz. sliced black forest ham
1/2 oz sliced gruyere cheese
1 tablespoon dijon mustard (or more if you like!)

Method of Preparation:
-Start with the Béchamel sauce in a hot pot, add butter and let it melt. Add flour and stir for a couple of minutes until it starts to brown, then add whole milk and kosher salt. Blend and simmer several minutes. When it starts to thicken, add grated Parmesan and Gruyère cheeses. When they melt, set aside on low heat.

– Now, build your sandwich. Put butter on the grill and toast slices of Sourdough bread and Black Forest ham. Put slices of Gruyère cheese on top of the ham, and add Dijon mustard to the bread.

– Put the ham and cheese on the bread, put it together as a sandwich and top it with the Béchamel sauce. Pop it in the oven under the broiler for a couple of minutes to heat the sauce and toast the cheese and bread.

To Plate:
-Plate the Croque Monsieur sandwich and serve with french fries.
