“Alice Through the Looking Glass” is the sequel to the 2010 movie “Alice in Wonderland.” The movie brings the old cast together with a newbie who gets added to the mix. The cast took the time to talk about Alice and Father Time.

Alice returned to Wonderland this weekend, in “Alice Through the Looking Glass.” It’s been six years since Mia Wasikowska was Alice in Wonderland. But six years in “human land” is three years in Wonderland.

Mia Wasikowska: “In this one, you will see Alice is more sure of herself. She feels incredibly empowered and sort of strong and grounded in who she is.”

Alice comes home to a society that doesn’t approve of her independence, and finds out her friends in Wonderland need her.

Mia Wasikowska (as Alice Kingsleigh): “The Hatter is my truest friend. If he’s in need, I will help him.”

Alice needs to go back in time to save the Mad Hatter. In Wonderland, Time is part clock, part human, and he’s a new character in this iconic story.

Sacha Baron Cohen: “All these other characters like the Mad Hatter and the Red Queen, they’ve existed for more than a century, so there’s a challenge in that you have to make sure this new character of Time is as iconic, but doesn’t feel out of place.”

Sacha Baron Cohen is the man who makes Wonderland tick … and tock.

Sacha Baron Cohen: “The challenge was, how to create this new character and put it into a Lewis Carroll piece and make it feel like it’s authentic.”

Johnny Depp is back as the Mad Hatter, but he was more excited for his new castmate.

Johnny Depp: “Truly the only person you can bring into play Time would be Sacha Baron Cohen. You could have all the expectations in the world and he is going to do the opposite, and it’s fantastic.”

Also returning to Wonderland, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter. The actresses are the sister duo of the White Queen and the Red Queen.

Helena Bonham Carter: “It’s a real gift to have a chance to have a go at a part again because you never do, usually. You do a part in a film, it’s not like doing a play where you can try again each night.”

Anne Hathaway: “I think the thing we are all here for is to make the fans of the first one happy. We just want to take them further into the journey.”
