This weekend’s hilarious option — “Bridget Jones’s Baby.” So, we thought we’d talk about it a little more. Deco met up with the cast of the film to discuss their take on the new comedy. Turns out — making people laugh isn’t as easy as it seems.
Bridget Jones is in trouble … again.
Colin Firth (as Mark Darcy): “You have no idea which of us is the father.”
The lovable character — played by Renee Zellweger — is back in “Bridget Jones’s Baby” after 12 long years.
Renée Zellweger: “I’m glad of the time that it’s taken.”
The actress told Deco that the film was worth the wait, especially for Bridget’s fans.
Renée Zellweger: “The audience has grown with the rest of us. We’ve all moved on and so the stories that these characters are telling now are relatable.”
In this sequel, Bridget meets a new guy — Jack — and an old love — Mr. Darcy. When they find out she’s expecting, the two fight for their lady.
Patrick Dempsey, a.k.a. Jack — says the movie is hilarious, especially a particular scene.
Patrick Dempsey: “I really enjoyed the interaction with Bridget in the studio and the dialogue that was happening with the announcer on stage. I loved those scenes. I thought they were very very funny and I was drawn in when I read it.”
But, what’s funny to one person, may not be funny to others. That’s why filming a comedy isn’t exactly easy. Just ask Mr. Darcy or Colin Firth.
Colin Firth: “It can make you neurotic — comedy. I mean there’s one of the old adage about comedy being a serious business because once you start to deconstruct things, you know, it’s not tickling your funny bone anymore. It becomes a bit of a science. You’re not there in front of an audience all the time getting your laughs for reassurance. You’re having to say is this funny or isn’t it?”
Something tells us this comedy won’t disappoint.
“Bridget Jones’s Baby” is in theaters Friday.
