South Florida offers some of the finest seafood on the planet. Chowing down on a freshly-caught delectable dish — there’s nothing better … unless you catch your dinner yourself. A Fort Lauderdale hotel is giving guests the opportunity to do just that.

If you’re in the mood for fish at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina, you don’t just order it — you catch it first.

Anthony Coffey, Hilton Fort Lauderdale Marina: “Right here at the hotel, we offer our Boat to Table service. Our guests go out on a four-hour charter where they fish for their dinner that evening.”

You can face the sea alone or bring five of your best friends.

Anthony Coffey: “Our guests can call the concierge, and they can make a reservation for up to six people for a four-hour charter. It’s approximately $750.”

Everything you need for a successful day on the water is waiting on board.

Anthony Coffey: “On the boat, they provide sodas and waters, as well as all the safety equipment, fishing poles, lines and baits.”

Experienced fisherman or not, you’re in great hands with the captain.

Capt. Marc Wyckoff: “Half a day trip consists of going out, getting acquainted with the customers, getting them at ease with the boat, showing them, you know, the basics, what goes on and what we expect, and what we’d like to see them do to maximize their catch.”

The boat leaves the marina and heads out to the ocean, where hopefully the fish are biting.

Capt. Marc Wyckoff: “You gotta be able to read water, read current moon phases, all kinds of different things that go into it.”

If his instincts are right — and the fish gods are smiling — you’ll come back with a fine day’s catch.

Capt. Marc Wyckoff: “Anything from bonitas, kingfish, tuna, wahoo, dolphin, mahi-mahi, snapper.”

Once the boat’s back at the dock, your catch is expertly filleted while you rest up in your room. The $1,000-a-night bi-level Marco Suite really isn’t a bad place to hang.

Meanwhile, your dinner is being prepared.

Chef Nicole Rhone: “We have an awesome catch today. We have a little bit of snapper, and these guys went out and they caught a really, really good catch.”

Your catch, along with two sides and a salad, is served family-style. A fitting end to a day any fisherman would be proud of.

Bryan: “It’s a great experience ’cause, you know, when you come to South Florida, that’s what you want to do: be in the sun, be in the water.”

Ulises: “Being from up north, I thought I was probably gonna catch a tire, but I caught some pretty good sized fishes, and it was just a great experience.”
